Life and Death and Thanks
I played at a funeral this morning. A lovely old lady from our church passed away recently after complications from surgery.
For today's #ThanksgivingJournal, I'm going to frame my thanks in terms of life and death.
PAST: I'm thankful for a life in which God has called me to set myself apart from Him, for His purposes. I haven't always been very good at it, but looking back from my age of 57, nearly 58, I can definitely see His hand moving me. I have friends and family die. My grandparents, and good friends like Tom Johnson, Jim Moffatt, Ramsey Unruh, Liam O'Byrn, and others. All of these people focused their lives on pleasing God, and they have set a standard for me to want to pursue as well. I am thankful.
PRESENT: I am thankful for each breath I take, every morsel of food that passes these lips, the wind on my face, the love of my children; these are all testaments to life, and I thank God for each of them.
FUTURE: I am thankful that God will protect me, and go ahead of me. He is preparing myself for Him, and for this I am perhaps MOST thankful.
