Listening to the Still, Small Voice

YouTube video cover for

Joanne and I have been trying to add a component to our morning Bible reading and prayer: we are waiting in silence, and asking God to speak to us. It's a bit out of my comfort zone, but our pastor has been speaking regularly on the importance of slowing down, and stopping to listen for God's voice.

So this psalm is timely. It has appeared in the natural cycle of making a new Read Along video every two weeks, and plopped itself down right in the middle of our efforts to hear from God.

For God alone my soul waits in silence,
For my hope is from him.
And He alone is my rock and salvation,
My fortress; I shall not be shaken.

From you comes salvation and honour;
Mighty rock, my refuge is in God.
Let's always trust in him
Pour out our hearts before him;
For he is our refuge.

For God alone my soul waits in silence,
For my hope is from him.
And He alone is my rock and salvation,
My fortress; I shall not be shaken.

The lowest of people but a breath,
The high-born are just delusion;
And when they balance out
They're both as light as breath.
So don't trust in riches.

For God alone my soul waits in silence,
For my hope is from him.
And He alone is my rock and salvation,
My fortress; I shall not be shaken.

Once God has spoken;
And twice have I heard it:
That power belongs to God alone,
And with it steadfast love belongs to you, O Lord.
For you repay to all according to their work.

For God alone my soul waits in silence,
For my hope is from him.
And He alone is my rock and salvation,
My fortress; I shall not be shaken.
