Psalm 109 (5:07)

by Jason Silver (played 35 times)

Do not be silent, O God of my praise.
For wicked and deceitful mouths are opened against me,
Speaking against me with lying tongues.
Encircle me with words of hate,
attack me without cause.
In return for my love they accuse me,
Even while I say prayer for them.
So they reward me evil for good,
And hatred for my love.

“Appoint a wicked man against him;
“Let an accuser stand on his right hand.
“When he is tried, let him be found guilty;
“Let his prayer be counted as sin.
“May his days be few; another seize his office.
“May his children be orphaned, his wife a widow.
“May his children roam about and beg for handouts;
“May they be driven out of the ruins they inhabit.
“May the creditor seize all that he has;
“May strangers seize all that he has purchased.
“And may strangers take the product of his labour.
“May there be no one to do him a kindness,
“Nor anyone to pity his fatherless children.
“May his decendants be cut off;
“Erase his name from the next generation.
“May the sin of his father be remembered before God,
“And do not let the sin of his mother be blotted out.'

“Let them be before the Lord continually,
“May his memory be cut off from the earth.
“For he did not remember to show kindness,
“But pursued the poor and needy and the broken-hearted to their death.

“He loved to curse; let curses come on him.
“He did not like blessing; may it be far from him.
“He clothed himself with cursing as his garment,
“May these curses soak in him like water, like oil into his bones.

“May it be a cloak that he wraps ‘round himself,
“Like a belt that he- he wears continually.”
May that be the reward of my accusers,
My accusers from the Lord, those who speak evil against my life.

But you, O Lord my Lord, act on my behalf for your name's sake;
Because your steadfast love is good, deliver me.
For I am poor and needy,
My heart is pierced within me.
I'm passing like a shadow late in the day;
I'm shaken off like a locust.
My knees are weak through fasting;
My body's gaunt. I am an object of scorn
My accusers see me, they shake their heads.

Help me, O Lord my God!
Because you're faithful, deliver me.
And they will realize this is your work O Lord.
Let them curse, but you'll bless.
Let my assailants be shamed;
May your servant be glad, accusers shamed.
With my mouth I'll give great thanks
Praise in the midst of the crowd.
For he stands at the right hand of the needy one,
To save them from those who judge his soul.
