2006 - Hamilton’s Best Valentines Party

A long tradition of Valentine’s Parties hMe as Corey Hartas seen many, many visitors to our church, and almost as many tacky songs from the past. Each year there’s a different theme, like favourite songs from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. This year we did top Canadian songs, covering artists like RUSH, Bryan Adams, Celine Dion, Sarah MacClaughlan, Blue Rodeo, Bare Naked Ladies, Gordon Lightfoot, Anne Murray, Joni Mitchel, and many more.

Last night was the last of three shows, and we’re all pooped, and a little bit sad that it’s over. This thing takes eight months to prepare— picking the theme and songs, charting and arranging for all the instruments, memorizing parts, practicing — so when it’s finally over, it is truly an ultimate climax.

Visit my Flickr site to see some pictures that others have taken. Maybe you can come to 2007 Valentines!!

It Was Great! and It’s Over!

Wow.

I have to say this may have been the best Valentine’s show ever. And to think we almost cancelled.

You see, most of what could go wrong, did go wrong. In the beginning, tickets weren’t selling, arrangements weren’t working, people were un-volunteering, we couldn’t find enough help— yet in the end, it came together better than I could ever have expected. Thanks to all who made this event such a success.

One of the most amazing things for me was how good the vocalists were this year. ESPECIALLY with Amy Forderer’s incredible dance moves and choreography, we were a hip looking crue. Thanks Amy!!

Peter, the bad cop, was a great help too. He rallied the troops, and helped keep order in chaos.

I could go on and on and on about all the people and what they did: Lights, Video, Sound, Makeup, Costumes, Decorators, Food Servers, Food Prep, Ticket Sales, Stage Design & Setup, Purchasers, Band, Advertising— Wow. Lots of people. THANKS!

The point of this party is to start conversations with people. We hope people ask questions like, “Why is a church doing this?” “What do we believe?” “Who are we?” “Why?” and more.

I’ve heard conversations are already happenning. Awesome. God is at work.

2005 Dress Rehearsal Was Great

Well, this year’s Valentines, celebrating the 1980’s is going to be great. The dress rehearsals went more-or-less smoothly. The jokes were sorta funny, and we only made a few mistakes. Tomorrow night should be better, and Saturday night will be great.

Tickets are almost sold out Saturday night, and there are three open tables Friday night. I hope they all sell!

Thanks to everyone who is working so hard on this!

It’s Over!

Amazing, this evening’s Valentine’s Party was the best ever. We even had the audience spontaneously erupt into a congo line! Probably 60-75 percent of the crowd were visitors to our church, affirming it as a great way to connect with our community. Looks like the ’80s next year, and we’re getting started right away!

It’s Finally Arrived

Tonight is the first full dress rehearsal for our 2004 Hamilton’s Best Valentine’s Party, and I’m getting more excited every second! In an hour and a half the team begins to arrive, donning costumes and buzzing with anticipation. We’ll snap through our stuff in two hours and be ready for our first of three performances tomorrow night.

It’s been a great year preparation-wise. Every time we do this more people get involved, and I need to worry about this less! I like that. winking

This year I’m singing Imagine, Your Song, Heart Break Hotel, Love, and That’s Amore. It’s a sold-out room for both of the full performances, and about a third sold for the dress-rehearsal tomorrow night. Other songs include Africa, Dancing Queen, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, If I Had a $1000000, Chapel of Love, Short People, Mr. Sandman, Another Day in Paradise, Shower the People, The Living Years, and more!

Hope you got a ticket!!
