[home/journal] I received some sad news not too long ago: a dear friend has been diagnosed with brain cancer. This person is such a great guy. He always has a wise and funny thing to say. He has a way of cutting through the “bullshit” and making everyone grin. And he looks and sings like James Taylor! I really hope that the doctors find a way to take care of this tumour— I haven’t had enough time. I thought there would be lots of extra years to get together and sing, play, record. I thought eventually one of us would get less busy, enough so that a trip to visit the other would be a more regular occurrence. Joanne and I have decided to go visit before we get worse news. We’ll be visiting with as many friends as we can find: Dave and Julie Edwards, David Corsello, Ardith Townsend, Joe Knipes, John and Judy Bruinooge, Ken Marechek, Paul and Ev Agrusti, Mike Lutz, Mike & Monique Turro, Mark and Sandy Del Aguila, Tom Johnson, and everyone else who means so much to us. Please contact me so we can get together! We’ll be calling on the telephone everyone for whom we have phone numbers, but for many we do not. I wish it didn’t take bad news to shock us into remembering the things that are really important. ~Jason

[home/webdesign/perl_scripts] This weekend I designed a new web site for Dundas Women’s Software Association. In the process I wrote a couple of new scripts which I hope will be of use to other people for their sites. The first script is a modification of the ESC database/shopping cart. You see, the great thing about this shopping cart is that it is so completely flexible and customizable— it can be used with any column names, and the data actually comes from Google Docs. You simply create a spreadsheet in Google Docs, fill in the fields, and viola! A searchable database is created on your site…. editable anytime through Google Docs. So I made their baseball game schedule a spreadsheet on Google Docs, and now ESC shows that schedule dynamically on their site. You can click on any team name to see all the dates and times that team is playing. I also wrote a little short script which calculates the standings of the teams automatically based on how many wins each team has had. The other script I wrote is really cool: it’s a “Meeting-Minutes” application. It shows all the minutes from all meetings as a list by date down the right side. Clicking on a date will display those minutes in a browser… it’s also instantly searchable, so you can quickly find the results of a decision from years ago. At some point in the next day or two I’ll put the Meeting-Minutes script up for sale on Intelliscript.net. I’ll likely sell if for $10.00. If you want it, and don’t see it there, shoot me an email and I’ll hook you up. ~Jason

Great Weekend
The long weekend was pretty relaxing this year— I decided to take Friday off to spend it with the family, and then we loaded in the van in the afternoon to make our way to my home town of Sydenham.
While we were there we enjoyed my sisters and their families so much. I also ran into Johnny Lyons, a childhood friend, along with his wife Tracy.
Jake and Melanie got a new boat, so we spent a bit of time tubing behind that, as well as going out in my dad’s house boat.
We spent the morning today at sister Stacy’s new house, and had breakfast and lunch with them. Lunch was at a little corner “Book Store Cafe” and I’m going to try to get a gig there… so if you’re from Kingston and you’d go to Camden East to hear me play, please let me know.
The weather is a fair bit more humid here in Hamilton compared to back home… yuck.
It looks like we’ve got a leak in drain pipes in the basement, so more work to do on the house. Does it ever end?
