Vacation At Last

Tomorrow, as close to 5 a.m. as possible, we’re piling into the van and heading for Saskatchewan. We’ll be gone a month.

We’ve got our tent-trailer all packed and ready, the van is decked out with comforts and entertainments of every kind— hopefully enough to occupy the minds of children for a 40 hour drive.

Our plan is to break the driving up into six-hour days, with one day being a 10 hour drive. I hope we survive without too much trauma… say a prayer on our behalf!

We’re wanting to log our journey, so be sure to stay in touch.

Handed in the Keys

Well, today was the official last day of work— though I haven’t been in the office much over the last month. I handed my keys to Lane.

It’s weird— I never would have predicted the course of events that have occured over the last year. But I’m SO GLAD it’s all over. I feel tremendously free. I’m going to seriously take a break from church for a while. I’m all churched-out.

Party at the Harvey’s

Last night we had an amazing celebration with many of the people from the music team… it was wonderful. There have been hundreds of musicians involved since we started seven years ago, and my closest friends among them came last night to support us and encourage us.

Working for a church is such a weird thing. Every time we ‘move on’ from a ministry position, I’m reminded of how unbelievably non-organic it is. Yet somehow you all made us feel very loved, and I know that we’ll stay in close contact over the years to come.

Thanks to all of you who came, and for the wonderful gifts! We love you all very much, and will seriously miss serving with you!

Previews Available for Moving On Again

I've uploaded the 30 second previews from my Moving On Again CD. Keep in mind that these mp3s are not mastered, but I think they still sound great.

I'd love a comment or two— take a listen and tell me what you think!

Moving On Again

Two nights ago, I stayed up until 3 a.m. completing the latest album, which I’ve entitled, “Moving On Again.”

It’s a kind of re-release of a CD I produced and sold back in 1999, except I’ve rerecorded all the parts and used real live instruments, instead of synthesizers.

The reason I did this, is that someone bought a copy of the CD a few weeks ago, and I was too embarrassed to send it to her. So I emailed her that I was rerecording the whole thing, and asked her if she’d be willing to wait.

I’ll upload a few samples here, so stay tuned— I hope you like it!

Jason

p.s. Thanks to Jeremy Siemens, who took this photo at an online web-concert I held a few months ago.

Download Access

I've finally created something I've wanted to have for a long time! Now when you purchase a script at Intelliscript.net, a special download page is created just for you. You can come at any time, login, and re-download the files.

This is great for me, because it can be so overwhelming to keep track of who has purchased the software, if their license has expired, etc. With over 40 separate scripts for sale, it was getting really hard to manage with my old system. And now when I release a new version of any script, I can instantly mail everyone who has purchased that script.

I used to have a similar, although manual system a number of years ago, but it was a third party script, and it was written in PHP (yuck!) and it was very SLOW. I love it that my script automatically create accounts when new purchases are made, and sends out people's login and password too.

Things Passing

I've been preoccupied and so haven't written about all the things I want to write about.

For example, I've finished a pretty good book and want to summarize it.  I've bought a car (a 2003 Cavalier - standard transmission). Matt Collins taught me how to put new brakes on the van, and we did that a week or so ago. I've made some significant changes to Intelliscript.net which I want to summarize on here….

Hmm. What else? We had a great going-away celebration at the church a while back: the music team peformed about a dozen or songs that I have written over the last seven years, then we had lots of food. Oh, and the staff at Philpott took us out for lunch yesterday.

Seth's had tubes put in his ears, and now is hearing is 100% restored! (He had lost something like 50% of his hearing in both ears!)

I'm working on about three new web site designs for various clients, old and new. I've finished recording a brand new CD, called Moving On Again. I have mixed and mastered it, and need to copy and then mail out a couple which have been bought already.

Lucas has started taking drum lessons from me, and he's a natural.

I built two consoles for our van. The front one has all kinds of cubby holes for junk and a spot for two coffee cups and a thermos. The second one is made to accommodate the boy's game cube, games, and mini tv. These consoles will hopefully make our trip that much more convenient because we won't have junk lying around loose, waiting to get broken or lost.

I'm sure there are other things to mention, but I can't think of any right now. I'll talk to you later!

Quite the Week

It’s been a challenging couple of weeks for me.

It’s quite the list— you ready?

  • Our dog was attacked by a friend’s dog. $250 dollars later, our dog is doing much better now— but for a while we were pretty concerned.
  • We had to take our van into the shop a week ago for tune up (since we’re driving to Saskatchewan in July). Let’s just say it was expensive.
  • Last Friday we planned on driving to visit my home town, to see my sis’s new little baby, Esme. We didn’t get leaving until five hours after we planend because I couldn’t get the lights on the trailer to work. Finally we left with just the running lights. I had to depend on hand signals for all my turns and stops. A little scary, to say the least. (My dad figured out what was wrong as soon as I got there!)
  • Part of the reason we went to Sydenham was to practice with the tent-trailer to see how our trip to Saskatchewan will work. Well, it rained for two days while we were there. We found out the tent trailer is leaking. (I guess better now than on the road, eh?)
  • Joanne hurt her back in Sydenham while picking up the baby— it still hurts!
  • I fell down the stairs Wednesday night— my wool socks were too slippery, I guess, and my feet went right out from under me… I slid down the stairs and my feet and arms got caught in the railing… in the process I hurt my foot, and have been on crutches ever since. I had it x-rayed on Thursday, and got the results yesterday afternoon. Just a sprain. But it hurts as if it was broken. Actually, right now it’s feeling a lot better.
  • Our kids have been so whiny… you wouldn’t believe it. One whiny kid is bad enough— but four! Ugh.
  • Joanne has been miserable, stressed, and over tired. See the kids point, above.
  • We need new tires on the van for the trip west.
  • Yesterday we decided we had to take the van into the mechanic’s again because the transmission problem was still there. This time it was even more money ($780!) And we found out it needs new brakes!
  • We can’t wait any longer, so picked a roofer to do our shingles… $5200.
  • I’ve got to buy a used car so I can drive to work when I get my new job, August first.
  • I’m still technically employed at Philpott… which really isn’t great. ‘nuf said.

As you can see, the output of money has been much greater than the input, and everyone has really frayed nerves. I hope things turn around soon!
