Much Needed Break
Yummm, I’m going on a vacation! Today at 4:30 our WestJet takes off for the great northern Saskatchewan. I’m looking forward to doing some fishing, hanging out with the in-laws, sleeping, relaxing… This should be great.

old database script: any news?
I cannot find it in Intelliscript.net downloads
Hi there,
No news— it’s still around, but not for sale because it takes considerable Perl knowledge to make it work for any database. I’m currently adapting it to work as an MP3 artist database like the one at MP3.com. You can see that at http://jasonsilver.com/music.
I’ll sell you a copy of the database script if you want it though. $15 should do it.

No ploy intended
I had a lot of fun too - at East Side’s that is. (FYI: I had an EastSide Burger (hold the bun) with bacon and cheese and a salad.)
AS far as being willing to forgo my brilliant idea of biking to a restaraunt, it was completely sincere. I had already taken something out of the freezer for dinner, so I was prepared for Jason to be tired or not into going out. I have given up the “ploys” a long time ago. It is far more to my advantage to work together with Jason in descion making than to just try to get my way. Of course, he makes it easy by being the perfect husband. Sorry, ladies. I got him first.

On the East Side with East Side’s
I came home from work exhausted, ready to crash in front of mountains of mail— e-mail that is, when my wife said, “I thought we’d GO OUT for dinner!”
The first thing that popped into my head is what probably pops into many men’s minds: “That’s gonna cost money.” (emphasise each word)
“We can take the bikes,” she said, trying to win me. “We’ll ride to your favourite restaurant, East Side Mario’s.”
I thought I held my face like steel; I thought my emotions would stay concealed behind an iron jaw, but she said, “That’s OK honey, I can make something. I can see you’re tired.”
“What a sweetheart,” I thought, “or maybe it’s all a sneaky ploy. It’s hard to know with women sometimes.” (No offense to any females reading this).
So I decided to go, even insisted despite her feigned retractions. “Sometimes excercise can pick you up,” I said, and meant it.
It’s been a long time since I’ve had that much fun. Ya, so it cost $50 bucks— but I had a wonderful time. I ordered a steak sandwich with brown pop, we got sauteed mushrooms on the side, bowls and bowls of East Side’s famous garden salad… Seth got pizza, Lucas his usual buttered elbow noodles, and Joanne— I don’t know what Joanne got.
Thank God for my wonderful wife. I’m relaxed and happy now. Life is good. And I don’t have to do the dishes.

Graceland
Our church has been doing this Graceland thing for the last few years— it’s a ‘Southern Gospel’ music night. I’ve been asked to play the piano for it, I guess because I can play all the fancy ‘country-licks.’ I do enjoy it partly…
Some of the long-timers really love it, so I try to be as enthusiastic as I can.
I do like some country music, and I really love the “Oh Brother, Where Art Thou” stuff…

Goldlfish Are Fine
Dear Jason Joanne, and Luke! Que Pasa? Ellis here, A.K.A. find4mebob. Your goldfish are fine, still have four and found good homes for the rest. Don’t sorrow, what is important is that in a moment in time, a father and a son worked together to build a fishpond. This has
given me a whole cycle of poems too much for my fingers now. I’ve learned too.

And The Circus Came to Town
Joanne and I took Lucas, Seth, and two of Luke’s friends to the circus today. Quite the experience. I don’t remember circuses being so COMMERCIAL when I was a kid! It was disgusting how many times they tried to push the world’s best toy— a stupid fibre optic light stick— ok, so it sounds good, but believe me, this is dollar store material!
The shows were really good though! I was impressed, really! But what’s with all the waving of the arms? Every time a flip is made, we get this flourish, and the circus band plays some big fanfare, like, campy! It was bad. Everyone was doing it, and I’ve seen it on TV and stuff, so I guess this is an acceptable end-of-move mannerism, but I was grossed out. Talk about major FAKE! This was so artificial!
And that brings me to my next thought; as I sat there I thought about the generations who really loved the circus, and how they flocked like geese to see these man-eating-dogs and dog-eating-men. Or maybe the lizard boy, or the bearded lady… These people were naive, they HAD to be— and I think they must have LIKED being fooled. It was a different day, that’s for sure.
So, while we’re waiting in line (not a very big line, mind you), Joanne is off buying tickets and I’m standing around with all the boys. I noticed these ladies handing out ‘cruelty to animal’ pamphlets. I read through it, but wasn’t impressed. Especially when I got inside and I saw all the loving taps and pats the elephants got, and the lolly-happy smiles on the super-trick doggies… the pleasantly plump tummies on the trick ponies— this is not an abused group, folks. If these animal rights people really want to get the circus closed down, they should hand out pamplets on tacky costumes and over-done flourishes! I mean, then they’d have some NEWS!

JasonSilver.com
I’m pumped! Yesterday afternoon JasonSilver.com finally became available again! Some guy in Toronto has had it without a site for the last three years or more. Just a ‘this page is under construction’ sign. I’ve been checking on it ever since waiting for it to come available, and even emailed him a few times. He wasn’t interested in selling it and wouldn’t put a link up to my site either. So I guess he lost and I won.
Speaking of which, I was going through my favourites folder the other day and just couldn’t believe how many sites are gone now which at one time seemed to be so big and important. Why, I wonder? I guess I’ve been on the web in one form or another— with a site I mean, since 1995 or so. But even my first site, www.tran-scribe.com is long gone. I guess I shouldn’t act too suprised. It’s just amazing to me, and kind of sad, that sites are year toay and gone tomorrow.
Anyway, JasonSilver.com will be my music site. Right now you can get to an early form of this site by visiting this page, but I hope to enhance the site to be able to stream for fast and slow connections, to have a message board maybe— for people to ask about my music, and operate the whole thing more like a database. Looks like I’ll be writing another script! ![]()
So keep checking for JasonSilver.com… there’s nothing much there right now, and it might be a few days until it actually works, but let me know what you think!

Car Repair
Ughh, my car broke down Friday, and I just got it back… I guess it could have been worse.
I was driving to work when I noticed smoke pouring out from the cracks around the hood. I thought my engine was on fire! I stopped, lifted the hood, and saw gray smoke coming from everywhere- around the cylinder heads, the back of the engine…
So I called Shannon- my mechanic. He thought it might be a frost plug… he told me to top up the rad with water, and fill up the anti-freeze, then drive it to his shop. Well, the water poured out as fast as I poured it in, so I got it towed.
It could have been worse— a $35 cent frost plug can cost $500 to get in, if you have to lift the engine or transmission. Fortunately it was only $80 bucks, plus the $50 tow, so I’m not in too bad shape. Cars can sure be expensive!

Someday a Family Tree Script
Right now, as you may have noticed, I use my iTreePad script to manage my family tree… but I really want to write a real family tree script. I see it as being a relational database, complete with pictures of each person. Because it’s a database, (maybe programmed in MYSQL) it can be relational TO THE MAX. iTreePad doesn’t handle complex mulit-dimensional relationships very well.
The thing is, I’ve got to get off my butt and learn MYSQL. I also don’t look forward to learning PHP, but I think I might have to… can Perl work with MYSQL? Maybe this would be another opportunity to work with Perl’s DBI, which I really like.
Anyone out there care to comment?

Sore Throat Today
Got a sore throat today, which really kinda sucks.
I think I’m getting sick— which is likely because the stress level and lack of sleep has been a teeny bit higher than usual. We’re all in the same place, I know— I’m not complaining.
On a positive note, Seth was really sick for about three weeks, but he’s getting better now! Believe me, this is welcome news.
