WOW! Great site!

I found a great site which echoes “my sentiments exactly”. You have to check this one out,
The Churchwarden. My favourite lines:
“Published with the belief that God acknowledges no distinction between the secular and the sacred.
and:
“On land, on sea, at home, abroad, I smoke my pipe and worship God” Johann Sebastian Bach 1685-1750

Making Whistles

I made my first Penny Whistle the other day. I found the directions on a web site, How to Make a Penny Whistle. It went really smoothly until I drilled the finger holes. I had to find directions on another site for placing the holes correctly.
When I was done I had my own whistle, albeit not very loud—- and not exactly in tune, it was quite fulfilling to make. I’m going to try again soon!

Aging, or Curing?

Funny, as I get older— I mean, since 30… I feel like I’m getting less able. Being around other musicians, for example, especially playing with pros— I feel pretty intimidated. When I was younger I don’t think I felt that way. Rather, it was exhilerating!
On one hand there’s this masculine need to dominate, to excel, to be in control. On the other hand there’s a maturity which doesn’t care, really. Maybe people hold less power over me? I can walk away from a situation where I feel “out of my league” or where I know I’ve embarrassed myself and shrug my shoulders. It doesn’t affect me on all the levels it used to affect me on. It’s interesting. At one time I needed approval from others to feel good about myself. Now I recognise that my freedom from that need creates a new kind of power: no one owns me. Honestly speaking, I still like to be approved of. There’s probably no escaping that… but it’s sort of a fringe benefit of confidence.
Anyway, if this is what growing up. or growing old is about, I look forward to it. Bring it on!

Work or Play?

Someone mentioned to me today that I never stop working… it’s made me wonder what the difference is between work and play? I mean, when I was a kid I built LEGO towers, cranes, electronic thing-a-ma-jigs. I built treehouses, invented board games, drew pictures… I don’t think I’ve ever stopped playing!

Long Lost Friends

I just did a search for Aldersgate on Google. I periodically do searches for places that are meaningful to me— I attended college at Aldersgate in Moose Jaw. I’m always suprised at what I find. I just located a former professor, Dr. Dan Pugerude. What a neat guy he was. I’m glad to have made this connection again. I hope I continue to find long-lost-friends!
